On Wednesday, May 26th, Boys & Girls Clubs teens from across Washington participated in the Mental and Emotional Health for Teens Workshop. In partnership with the Ford Motor Company Fund, the Congressional Award Foundation invited teen and teen program providers to join a virtual conversation with elected officials and mental health practitioners to discuss mental and emotional well-being for teens.
Teens were joined by Congressman Adam Smith from the 9th Congressional District (Pierce County). Rep. Smith opened up about his own struggles with mental and emotional health showing that all of us are vulnerable to struggles form time to time. Afterwards teen participants were given opportunities to speak directly to their unique experiences throughout the past year and how adults in their community can best serve them. Participants were then provided a comprehensive list of resources to seek additional support.
An opportunity like this provides our members an opportunity to drive the conversation of youth empowerment and teen mental health support. We could be more about of the Boys & Girls Club members who shared their experiences and created a means of support for their peers.
