In February 2020, Brian Ace, Executive Director of Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin Counties, spoke about the benefits of after-school programs on KNDU, an NBC affiliate for the Tri-Cities Region.
Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Washington State offers kids a variety of options for after-school programming that nurtures healthy lifestyles, academic success, and mental and emotional wellbeing. Providing youth with choices empowers them to discover and nurture their personal interests. And as children become invested in their happiness, they establish healthy relationships with caring adults and peers.
Research shows that participating in after-school programming can help students academically. According to School’s Out Washington, after school programs improve test scores, grades, attendance, and engagement with learning. In fact, 86% percent of alumni of Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington State report that Clubs helped them graduate from high school.
