Health-focused partnerships are on the rise between Boys & Girls Clubs and insurance providers.
TACOMA – February 7, 2019 – Coordinated Care of Washington (CCW) has joined Boys & Girls Club of Washington (BGCWA) as a Healthy Lifestyles Partner to create more GREAT FUTURES in Washington State.
CCW is donating $50,000 to create the Healthy Lifestyles Fund to support new and existing programs that encourage healthy lifestyle behavior changes and have lasting impacts on kids’ health and wellbeing. CCW celebrated the partnership with a check presentation at the Al Davies branch of Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. CCW members will be able to have their annual membership fee covered at all Boys & Girls Clubs across Washington state.
Programs will emphasize health and wellness, including kitchen snack programs, scratch cooking, nutrition education and related activities that underscore portion control, a balanced diet and healthy food choices. The Healthy Lifestyles Fund will also encourage physical activity including competitive sports and non-competitive physical activities, such as dance and exercise classes that increase fitness and help club members learn teamwork.
“Since launching in 2012, Coordinated Care’s purpose has been to transform the health of the community one person at a time, and this Boys & Girls Club partnership immediately supports our members with access to vital services at local Clubs,” said Beth Johnson, Coordinated Care’s President & CEO. “We are thrilled to make this investment to support the Boys & Girls Clubs’ vision of connecting life enhancing programs, character development experiences, opportunity and hope to youth from all cultures, especially those with the most need.”
“Childhood obesity has devastating consequences and is growing into a national health crisis. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Coordinated Care to engage youth in physical activity, proper nutrition and positive healthy lifestyle”, said Katya Miltimore, Executive Director, Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington State Association. “We look forward to welcoming Coordinated Care members into our Clubs, and appreciate Coordinated Care’s support of our efforts to promote healthy lifestyles among our members.”
